Removal of Aging Spots

First, a word of caution. If you notice any new spots on your skin – especially those with an irregular border – have you doctor check them. In fact, ask you doctor to go over your skin to check for any unusual spots during your annual physical, if they don’t do it already.

Unfortunately, none of us are getting any younger! As we age, “aging spots” are bound to appear on the face, hands, etc. These light brown spots are primarly caused by chronic exposure to sun light, aging and family history.

Again, let me mention the importance of wearing a good sun screen. Many of us don’t want to slather on sun lotion 365 days a year, but it’s more than worth it if you’re going to be outside. You’d want to wear it in the summer, so use it in winter too – for skiing, hiking and other outdoor sports.

Ladies generally put on moisturizer anyway, in the morning, and some higher-grade sun screen lotions double as moisterizers.

We can lighten or eliminate your aging spots at Clarité with one or two treatments of our Alexandrite laser, which is highly effective.

However, you may want to try some other methods of lightening aging spots. A topical vitamin C medical-grade serum, applied to the skin, can help to prevent aging spots by decreasing the free radicals created when sun light interacts within the skin cells. Vitamin C serum can also help to slowly fade aging spots in some cases. This product is available at Clarité Laser.

There are also skin bleaching agents available at your local pharmacy, but a word of caution here: people with sensitive skin should do a small “patch test” on an inconspicuous area first to ensure they won’t have an adverse reaction. Otherwise, only put these bleaching creams directly on the age spot, and never over large areas.
