What conditions can be treated?
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Dryness
- Pigmentation spots – (often combined with the pico laser)
- Acne
- Overall skin texture
Am I going to peel?
The answer is not so simple. Skin exfoliation can happen without obvious scaling and peeling. When doing a procedure for rosacea or sensitive skin, an agressive peel is not advised. If you wish to avoid peeling, we have several effective options that work on a cellular level while still resulting in a clearer, more radiant complextion. Generally, we use gentle peels which exfoliate without damaging the sensitive epidermis. However if a client has thick, acneic skin, then a more aggressive peel is used. During your consultation skin preparation is reviewed and the appropriate procedure and products will be decided.
Types of Peels
Lactic acid peel. (for sensitive skin) This is a very gentle and hydrating peel, loosening dead cells while plumping the skin. It boosts the cell turnover resulting in smoother skin texture. This peel is perfect for those who have rosacea, sensitive skin or those who are hesitant to start peels.
BHA peel. (for oily or acneic skin) BHA stands for beta hydroxy acid. This peel uses salicylic acid and is used for oily, congested or acne prone skin. The salicylic acid is anti-inflammatory and helps to exfoliate the sebum or oil which is under the skin. For this reason, a breakout may be expected after the peel followed by clearer skin.
Modified Jesseners peel Combining 3 ingredients - lactic acid, salicylic and resorcinol - this is a deeper peel that often results in peeling. We also have a full Jessners for those who do not mind peeling and a deeper effect. This peel helps to refine the skin texture, clear acne, reduce the appearance of large pores, pigmentation and fine lines.
Treatment Expectations
With careful attention to skin care and by selecting the right procedures, you will notice a slow but steady improvement in your skin. We advise you to avoid the sun and tanning beds for 2 weeks following treatment, to use a sunscreen daily, avoid any cleansers or products for 1 week before and 1 week after treatment (such as retinols, glycolic acid or salicylic acid), avoid vigorous exercise for 2-3 days post treatment, and avoid laser, IPL or any other facial procedures for at least 2 weeks.

Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning involves cleansing the face, performing a dermaplane and applying soothing moisturizers and sunsceen afterwards. Dermaplaning is a good choice for anyone who wants to remove fine, downy hair on the sides of the face and also helps with exfoliation and with reducing scars and some skin imperfections.
This procedure is performed by an experienced esthetician using medically sterilized equipment. It is a gentle, relaxing procedure that may be combined with a facial containing rejuvenating ingredients or a light chemical peel.
A skin analysis is performed before your dermaplaning and the possibility of any adverse effects will be discussed with you.

What conditions does dermaplaning help?
- Dry, dull skin
- Peach fuzz
- Fine lines
- Sun damage
Dermaplaning should not be performed if any of the following are present:
- Active acne
- Cold sores
- Eczema
- Psoriasis
- Burns
- Rashes
- Undiagnosed moles
What should I expect after my dermaplaning?
Aftercare consists of using gentle cleansers and moisturizers with sunscreen for several days. The treated area may be somewhat sensitive. You will be instructed on proper home care. By the next day, or even a few hours after the procedure, your skin should feel normal again. If you have a peel along with dermaplaning you may experience a light burning sensation or itchiness during the procedure.
Often we're asked "will my hair grown back thicker and darker" - the answer is NO. The hair being treated is very fine "vellus" hair", it will eventualliy grow back the same. After a few days you will notice that you have a smoother, more glowing and youthful complexion.
Rosacea and Red Skin
Rosacea - sometimes called "adult acne" - is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by red skin, broken blood vessels and small red bumps or pimples. It affects both men and women and occurs in about 10% of the population, commonly presenting in people between 30 to 50 years old. The condition can reduce self-esteem and increase self-consciousness.
Many factors contribute to rosacea, including genetics and age, and it may be triggered by heat, caffeine, and alcohol. There are different stages of rosacea, ranging from transient flushing to permanently dilated capillaries and acne.
Clarite is one of the few clinics to offer a comprehensive and effective range of treatment options including a customized blend of appropriate cosmeceuticals, prescriptions, and skin treatments including lasers. A consultation with Dr. Rice will determine which treatment will best suit you. She'll also discuss your on-going skin care with guidance on skin cleansers, moisturizers and make-up, each of which must be formulated so as not to disrupt the natural skin barrier.
